life in the Big Apple

certainly still a work in progress.

grab-bag on wheels

had to take the bus from times square (of all places) to the middle of nowhere in search of the ups center. what's the point in having something delivered if you have to go hunt it down anyway? wound up standing next to a man with biceps the size of my enormous face. never a dull moment with new york public transportation.

note to self: the bf must make you feel petite.
warning: save for a small sliver of the population, asian boys are unlikely to qualify.

how unfortunate.

it feels like i spend more time in the health center than i do in class.

c/o 2006
didn't think i'd see a graduation this year but CONGRATS PAT!!! you reminded me of how lost i would have been had i not met you guys when i moved here. andrew, you're next. our graduation cupcakes await.

X-men 3
watched it twice in 24 hrs. cried both times like a child. degrees of acting skills are evident, even in such a predominantly action-based film. the big names are clearly superior.

scholarships
Please submit the attached Application Form along with a brief statement on why you are seeking consideration for Rudin Scholarship.

umm, cuz i need the money??? it sure as hell isn't because i enjoy writing these things.

a light at the end of the tunnel.

Jennifer Appel began her professional career as a clinical psychologist. Though geared toward academics, the culinary arts were also in her blood. She fondly remembers her mother and grandmothers creating a variety of masterpieces in the family's kitchen. At the end of a long workday, Jennifer would come home and unwind by cooking, and by baking special desserts. Before long, her hobby became her passion. Intrigued by the food industry, Jennifer decided to switch careers and go full-time into the bakery business. In July 1996, she opened Magnolia Bakery in New York City's Greenwich Village, where she and her business partner sold cookies, pies, mini- cheesecakes and other delectable treats.

In August 1999, Jennifer ventured out on her own to open Buttercup Bake Shop in midtown Manhattan. Since its opening, the bakery has experienced outstanding success with its line of old fashioned American desserts and inviting ambiance.

"Buttercup Bake Shop® is a place to walk into and feel deliciously overwhelmed by display cases filled with cupcakes in every color of the rainbow, counters crowded with classic American layer cakes, and 'just like Grandma’s' muffins, buns, cookies, bars and squares."

"Customers tell me they feel embraced by childhood memories of their neighborhood bake shop. These classic desserts are satisfying the midtown neighborhood folk as well as the most prestigious of clients."

"Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany’s, New York Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Miramax Films, DreamWorks, the Late Show with David Letterman and many Broadway theaters, among others, have all been celebrating their special occasions with these delightfully delicious cakes and cupcakes."

"With information moving at the speed of light, Buttercup Bake Shop lets you slow down and wile away an afternoon sipping your favorite beverage and enjoying some delectable, nostalgic treats that spell comfort and love."

nyc at dawn

you know it's been a grueling night of studying when you walk out of the library to find the bus routes have restarted and the breakfast food carts are set up and ready for the morning rush.

yet it's one of the most understated highlights of my day to entertain my most ponderous thoughts and envisage my elaborate dreams on that mile walk home from columbia's campus. and for a brief moment when i pause to watch the bakers silently at work behind the windows of Silver Moon Bakery on the corner of 105th and Broadway, one of those dreams roots itself just a bit deeper into my much too scattered vision for my future.
